Help
Get from download to your first task.
Install Local Computer, use Connect ChatGPT, add the Local Computer App in ChatGPT, and approve only the local folder you want ChatGPT to work with.
Getting started
- Download the Windows Preview.
- Install it as your normal Windows user.
- Open Local Computer.
- Use Connect ChatGPT; do not manually expose port 7676 or install a separate cloudflared.
- Complete the ChatGPT OAuth / app connection flow available in your ChatGPT workspace.
- Open the local folder you want to work with and try a small first task.
What can it do today?
Files and folders
Open approved folders, read and write files, make exact edits, search text, find files, and inspect directory structure.
Commands
Run foreground Windows PowerShell commands for Git, builds, tests, local development and diagnostics.
Background tasks
Start longer-running jobs, check status and logs, list them, cancel them, and use timeouts.
SmartScreen
If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” or Unknown Publisher, first verify that the installer came from downloads.just-play.fun and that its SHA-256 matches the value on the Download page. Only then choose More info → Run anyway.
Why can’t I create a custom ChatGPT app?
ChatGPT UI labels, entry points, and rollout can change. Do not use the account’s plan name as the acceptance rule. If the current UI does not expose an Add / Create / custom App / MCP entry, capture the Apps / Settings page and stop rather than using a bypass. That UI state alone is not evidence that the Local Computer Windows Runtime failed.
Advanced details
Local Runtime port and data paths
The local Runtime uses port 7676. The Windows app installs under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Local Computer\, uses executable LocalComputer.exe, and keeps current-version data under %LOCALAPPDATA%\LocalComputer\. Do not manually expose the local port to the internet.
